While Apple Pay has been confined to the United States and United Kingdom so far, Apple could be planning a more aggressive expansion of the payment system in the near future. Apple Pay badges have begun showing up in the listings for a number of businesses in Australia with Apple's own Maps application, which is normally used to indicate that a business supports or is soon to support the system.
The badges have appeared in select locations for both Coles and Woolworths supermarket chains, in cities such as Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth. Other locations for those chains, in addition to other major retailers in Australia, do not have the badges.
Now, this could be a mistake, or it could be a sign that Apple Pay will expand to Australia soon. The payment system is already reported to be heading to Canada in early November, but it's possible that Apple could speed up the roll out to more than one country at a time. Of course, we're unlikely to know more until Apple makes an announcement, so stay tuned for that.
