While Apple Pay launched in the U.K. back in July with support from most big British banks, one notedly absent institution was Barclays. However, the bank is apparently preparing to support Apple Pay in the U.K. in the early part of 2016. A frustrated customer received a message to that effect after complaining to the bank about their lack of support for the system.

From Mike Jobson:

We have signed up for ApplePay and will launch it very early in the New Year. We truly value your custom and hope that you continue to bank with us particularly since we are launching this shortly.

Barclays will be the last of the "Big Four" banks in the U.K. to add support for Apple Pay, with the others being HSBC, the Royal Bank of Scotland, and Lloyds Banking Group. The system is currently supported in the U.K. by these other financial institutions as well:

  • American Express
  • Bank of Scotland
  • First Direct
  • Halifax
  • M&S Bank
  • MBNA
  • Nationwide Building Society
  • NatWest
  • Santander
  • Ulster Bank
